Rana Rishmawi

qanun

Rana Rishmawi  is a qanun player from Bethlehem, Palestine. Rana started playing qanun when she was in fourth grade, studying in the Edward Said National Conservatory of Music, in Bethlehem, where she studied for seven years. She is currently a student at Macalester College, majoring in geology and statistics. At Macalester she is a member of the Asian Music Ensemble. Her favorite musical piece is Touta by Farid al-Atrash. Fun fact: Rana sent a recording of her playing Touta with her college application to Macalester, and this was the beginning of the Middle Eastern section of the Asian Ensemble at Macalester!
